2k IG vs Orks

I am seriously BLESSED to have met Dale. Not only is he a stellar person, but he is pretty much the only person I can get in regular games with. Dale, you rule, man.

As well, considering Dale hasn’t played since 2nd edition, he has picked up 6th edition quickly. He also pretty much never makes the same mistake twice and tends to surprise me at times. I’m not fooling myself into thinking I’m even half the player I was in 5th in regards to 6th, but I’m so happy Dale keeps pushing me to play better.

Dale was using 2k Orks for only the second time and was using a list modified from something Reecius from Frontline Gaming uses. I thought it was pretty effective.

Anyway, here’s the game from last night.

This one went the distance and it was pretty close.

EDIT: I realized that I forgot about First Blood, which I had gotten, so I guess I actually won this!

I discussed with Dale a few of the things I think he could’ve done differently to turn the table in his favor, mostly, being more aggressive with his trukks to put pressure on me. Also, deploying his lootas where they can see more stuff.

As to what I learned.

1. Give myself more depth in Hammer and Anvil. I didn’t want to be too smushed up in the backfield, but by being that close to Dale, he was in easy strike range of me. I also should’ve deployed further back to negate his lobbas which tore me up all game.

2. Outflanking the Demolishers was OK, I probably could’ve gotten more mileage out of them if I deployed normally since Dale was coming at me, but it was a nice threat in his backfield that he used resources to stop. When I rolled to bring in the demolishers I rolled my left side and if I had tried to go into his backfield he had two trukk boy units that could’ve just jumped out and klawed them to death. Had they come in on my right, I could’ve tank shocked the lobbas, then shot the OTHER lobbas. That would’ve also put me out of charge range from the trukk boyz as well. Not sure if I’ll always use this tactic, but I think it was pretty solid in this instance, if only I had rolled better!

This game stayed close due to a couple critical points, almost all involving leadership.

When my scouts got shot by lobbas, they got pinned. Had they not been pinned, they would’ve assaulted and killed the lobbas. On turn 3, Creed only got one order off, then rolled a 12! I needed that for “Bring it Down” on that stupid trukk with 1 HP left. I ended up devoting nearly all my shooting on it, fortunately, they were pinned. Dale also made a TON of ld checks, for instance rallying his one lobba crew on a 5 within 3″ of the board edge as well as holding on turn 4 with his kannon crew. He also passed his morale check on his lone Nob in my deployment zone! I can’t complain too much because my artillery was HOT that game and I made a ridiculous number of armor saves to keep my warlord alive.

A really tense and fun game that I learned from and I’m sure Dale did too!

  1. Doh, I forgot all about First Blood! I guess I actually won.

Me: 2 objectives, First Blood, Slay the Warlord, 1 HS killed: 9 pts
Dale: 2 objectives, Linebreaker, 1 HS killed: 8 pts.
